Mountain State University offers studies at both the undergraduate and master’s degree levels, with academic programs focusing on high-demand professional fields as well as the humanities and sciences. Founded in 1933, MSU is a not-for-profit independent institution of higher education. The primary campus, in Beckley, W.Va., is surrounded by the natural beauty of the southern West Virginia highlands, home to some of the best outdoor recreation in the United States. A relaxed atmosphere brings together students from the surrounding area with those who come from across the country and around the world. The city of Beckley combines a small-town atmosphere with a surprising number of dining, shopping, and entertainment options. For those who are drawn to more urban pursuits, the state capital of Charleston is only about an hour away, and most major eastern U.S. cities are within a day’s drive.
