Terms of Service

1.1 Application Terms of Agreement

I certify that the information I have provided to American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI) is true, correct, and complete. I may be asked to provide additional documentation. I understand that ACFEI reserves the right to verify any and all information that I provide. If I misrepresent my credentials, refuse to provide documentation at a later time if asked, or allow my membership with ACFEI to lapse, I understand and agree that my membership and/or certification status will be revoked and terminated. I am not providing misleading, false, or deceptive information. I understand that if I have provided misleading, false, or deceptive information, the association will pursue aggressive legal action. I have not been convicted of a felony. I have not been disciplined and am not currently under investigation by a legal or licensing board. If the documentation required for the credential or membership status for which I am applying is not received within 6 months from the date of application, I understand that no refund will be issued in the event of the cancelation or denial of my application. I agree that I will notify ACFEI in writing of any civil, criminal, or complaint that is made against me. I agree to hold harmless and indemnify ACFEI and its officers, directors, employees, and agents for any misrepresentation of my credentials and for all claims, loss, judgment, or expense. ACFEI does not endorse, guarantee, or warrant the work or opinions of any individual members. Membership and/or certification does not imply licensing or registration by the organization of a member’s qualifications, abilities, or expertise. The objective of ACFEI’s publications and the activities that it sponsors are for informative and educational purposes. The views expressed by the authors, publishers, or presenters are their own views and do not necessarily reflect those of ACFEI. ACFEI does not assume any responsibility or liability for its members or subscribers’ efforts to apply or use the information, suggestions, or recommendations made by the organization, publication resources, or activities. The association reserves the right to revoke membership and/or certification at any time and for any reason.

2.1 Conference Cancellation Policy

All requests for cancellation of conference registration must be made to Association Headquarters in writing by fax, mail, or e-mail. Phone cancellations will not be accepted. All cancelled/refunded registrations will be assessed a $75 administrative fee. All refunds will be issued in the form of credit vouchers and are pro-rated as follows: cancellations received 4 or more weeks prior to the conference=100% refund (less $75 administrative fee); cancellations received less than 4 weeks but more than 1 week prior to the conference=50% refund (less $75 administrative fee); cancellations received 1 week or less prior to the conference=no refund. For more information on administrative policies, such as grievances, call (800) 423-9737. The performance of this conference is subject to acts of God, war, government regulation, disaster, strikes, civil disorder, curtailment of transportation facilities, or any other emergency that makes it impossible to hold the conference. In the event of such occurrences, credit vouchers will be issued in lieu of cash. Conference schedule is subject to change. Please be prepared to show photo identification upon arrival at the conference. A $25 NSF fee will be assessed for each returned check.

3.1 Education Related Refunds and Requests

For each education related exam passed with a grade of 70% or above, a certificate of completion will be accessible from the online member profile for your continuing education credit purposes. Exam results are only given as pass/fail. Exam results are immediately available online, and there is no fee to retake a short-course exam. The retake fee for a regular course exam, other than for certifications and short-courses, is 35% of the initial fee. No refunds are issued once a course is in progress.

4.1 Certification Related Refunds and Requests

For each certification exam passed with a grade of 70% or above, a certificate of completion will be accessible from the online member profile for your continuing education credit purposes. Exam results are only given as pass/fail, and may take up to two business days to be issued. Other requirements must be met before the certification certificate will be mailed. There is a $100 fee to retake a certification exam. No refunds are issued once a course in progress. Continuing education credits for participation may not apply toward license renewal in all states. It is the responsibility of participants to verify requirements of their state licensing board(s). 5.1 Certification Statement

Certification courses are available to anyone with the desire to further educate themselves. The use of a certification credential is only available to members in good standing who meet the eligibility requirements for certification. Those individuals who do not meet the required prerequisites may still enroll and complete the courses and exams. For these individuals, a grace period of 1 year will be extended in which he or she may provide necessary documentation stating they meet the prerequisites to become certified. Upon verification of the submitted documentation, a certificate will be issued. Your certificate will be mailed within 3-5 weeks upon submission of necessary documentation and approval. Student members do not qualify for certification.

5.2 Maintaining Certification

To maintain certification, members must maintain their membership with the association and strive to fulfill the recommendation of 15 continuing education credits.

5.3 Based on U.S. Law Statement

All courses and materials are based on United States laws and regulations unless otherwise noted. Laws vary from state to state and in some cases federal law will overrule.

5.4 ADA Statement

5.5 Non-Discrimination Statement

All programs are non-discriminatory. Eligibility for certification and recertification is denied only when an individual does not meet the eligibility requirements, when an individual has violated the Association's standards, or when an applicant has committed an act that would reflect negatively on the Association or the certification program.

5.6 Disclosure

Approvals for continuing education activities are subject to change.

6.1 Payment Methods

ACFEI accepts credit card payments (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). You agree to pay all fees charged to your account based on ACFEI fees, charges, and billing terms. All payments shall be paid in full prior to the issuance of certificates and/or admittance to the Executive Summit. If you do not pay on time or if your credit card cannot be charged for any reason, ACFEI reserves the right to either suspend or terminate your account, membership, and/or certification and terminate these Terms. All sales and payments will be in US Dollars.

7.1 Renewal

By renewing, I affirm that my professional license has not been revoked or suspended and is not currently under investigation. I also affirm that I have not been convicted of any felonies prior to or since joining the association. I understand that if I falsify my credentials, my status will be immediately revoked. Student members must submit proof of enrollment with a minimum of nine credit hours.

7.2 Automatic Membership Renewal

If automatic dues renewal is selected, ACFEI will automatically renew your membership on each monthly anniversary date of the membership and, as authorized by You during the membership sign-up process, will charge your credit card with the applicable membership fee. To cancel a membership, please submit a written request to ACFEI located at 2750 East Sunshine, Springfield, MO 65804. All cancellation requests must be received by the first day of the month. Cancellation requests received after the first of the month shall take effect the following month.

8.1 Member ID Cards

Member ID cards are issued by the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI) solely to the cardholder identified on the front of the card. The card is the property of the ACFEI and must be surrendered upon demand. The ACFEI reserves the right to cancel, change, or revoke the use of the card at any time and for any reason. Membership does not imply licensing or registration of a member’s qualifications, abilities, or expertise. Use of this card constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions herein.

8.2 Certificates

Certificates issued by the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute are the property of the ACFEI and must be returned to ACFEI upon cancellation, termination, or revocation of membership and/or certification.

9.1 ACFEI Principles of Professional Practice

I will uphold the ACFEI Principles of Professional Practice.

ACFEI and its members are to remain completely objective and use their ability to serve justice by making an accurate determination of the facts involved.

ACFEI members are not advocates for one side or the other. Members should not intentionally withhold or omit any findings or opinions discovered during a forensic examination that would cause the facts to be misinterpreted or distorted.

ACFEI members should not misrepresent or overstate their credentials, education, training, experience, or membership status.

ACFEI members are expected to refrain from any conduct that would be adverse to the best interest and purpose of ACFEI. Members are to be forever vigilant of the importance of their role and to conduct themselves only in the most ethical and professional manner at all times.

10.1 Forensic Examiner Creed

I will uphold the Forensic Examiner Creed.

I do affirm that:

I shall investigate for the truth.
I shall report only the truth.
I shall avoid conflicts of advocacies.
I shall conduct myself ethically.
I shall seek to preserve the highest standard of my profession.
As a Forensic Examiner, I shall not have a monetary interest in any outcome of a matter in which I am retained.
I shall share my knowledge and experience with other examiners in a professional manner.
I shall avoid conflicts of interest and will continue my professional development throughout my career through continuing education, seminars, and other studies.
As a Forensic Examiner, I will express my expert opinion based only upon my knowledge, skill, education, training, and experience.
The light of knowledge shall guide me to the truth, and with justice the truth shall prevail.
To all these things, I affirm to uphold.

Information Safeguarding

ACFEI takes many steps to ensure the integrity of its information systems. Access rules to consumer data are applied at both the application and data storage levels and there are stringent requirements for access to these resources. ACFEI will internally safeguard your nonpublic personal information by maintaining electronic and procedural safeguards that meet federal and/or state standards.
