Robert B. Lechter is spearheading the movement for making financial statement auditors more effective by teaching them how to think like crooks and act like detectives. He bases this invaluable tool-chest of forensic and investigative techniques and procedures on several of his actual cases and engagements, delivering a timely, necessary, and unique approach to making audits more like the investigations they should be.
This Webinar is designed to introduce the concept of forensic accounting and describe some of the major differences between traditional audits using generally accepted auditing standards, and forensic audits using the "Seven-Step Methodology" of criminal investigation. This Webinar will explain why forensic techniques are necessary, as noted in some of the stunning findings of the 2008 Report to the Nation on Fraud and Occupational Abuse. Additionally, actual forensic cases in which the author participated and the techniques he used will be discussed with invaluable "Implementation Hints," showing participants how to implement these techniques in a traditional audit.
Mr. Lechter, CPA, Cr.FA, is a sole-practitioner in the state of Maryland. His primary focus of practice is auditing, while he also practices forensic and investigative accounting.
Mr. Lechter has worked with prosecuting and defense attorneys in both criminal and civil cases. He represents clients in America, Canada, Germany, and China, and he has represented the U.S. Government with respect to several international political-risk insurance claims.
Mr. Lechter maintains memberships in the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI), the Maryland Association of CPAs (MACPA) and the Maryland Society of Accountants (MSA). Mr. Lechter participates in the AICPA Peer Review Program and has completed seven successful (unqualified) reviews.
